Welcome!

My name is Cláudia Ramos Monteiro, and I write A pé ou de carro (literally, On foot or by car), which takes its name from my conviction that everything small leads to big questions, regardless of speed and direction.

I write mostly about theology, the field grounded in ultimate questions that structure our discernment: we have wandered that field for millennia, and our public life is enriched when we acknowledge its musings.

My imagination was shaped by a mixture of Portuguese and North American culture, not to mention secularism, Catholicism and Protestantism. It’s been a bit of a joyous mess, one I am now trying to make sense of.

The mess continues in language: some of the texts you find here are in English, some in European Portuguese—which is fine if you speak both languages and confusing if you don’t. My apologies, and thank you for bearing with me.
